Community News – Insight Meditation with Mindfulness



And many thanks, to all who participated in the Insight Meditation with Mindfulness drop-in sessions during the month of May, June and July.

The venue, Dunboyne Parish Centre provided such a surprisingly peaceful setting. This new build is warm, spacious and airy. As quoted by one participant “ a relaxed space to look forward to each week that’s just for me”.

We were delighted with the response and numbers who turned up each week.  Considering it was mainly through word of mouth with a ‘good dollop of trust’ on our side even when things didnt seem to turn out quite as we had imagined!

Each week would focus on a particular theme. Learning how our bodies relate and respond to stress and in particular the role of our central nervous system was of interest to many. Understanding how the on/off button (the two branches of the sympathetic/parasympethetic  nervous system)is activated and plays a vital role in our relationship to ongoing good health both psychologically and emotionally.

Each week we learned a little more about shifting our response to everyday stress and anxiety.   Experiencing guided meditation with a mindfulness perspective during each session was warmly anticipated by the group.  Sometimes it felt like a big sigh of relief as we settled into our quiet space allowing the busyness of the week to fade into a more relaxed state.   Developing the field of awareness begins as we give commitment to learning the skill of patience and  non judgemental towards our practice.  Not an easy task initally! as we gently learn to cool down and turn towards the stressors that have built a home in our beautiful mind and body over time.

The feedback received from the mindfulness breathing pod cast was welcomed and deemed a good idea towards keeping people ‘tuned in’ to remaining mindful out side of each session. The interaction and comments on how people were dealing with heretofore ‘stressful states’ with less reactive patterns etc. was heartwarming to hear.   Thanks to one and all.

I do hope you enjoyed my varied teaching approaches.  The outstanding use of visual images like my( not so perfect cartoon sketches!)and also the poetry and storytelling as a way towards retaining information. How lovely it is to sit as a group being guided and gently supported into an inner quiet space.  Exploring personal experiences that can have insightful wisdom

The famous philosopher Socrates once said, “The unexamined life is not worth living”.   How very true. We are on our journey…………

Unwind Your Mind – April Event

April Event – Dunboyne, Co. Meath


Venue: St Peters GAA Club, Dunboyne Co. Meath

Time: 10.30 – 11.30 am

Dates: April 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th

Cost: 70 euro (14 euro per session)

Small Groups.

Energize: Yoga movements through mindful awareness.  We become intrigued as to what ‘is possible’ in the body when we explore movement with clear perception and insight.  Relearning how to move, stretch, release and relax with ease and increased awareness of your physical body.

Explore: Guided meditation practice – a gentle skill in understanding our autopilot mode of mind while allowing for a kinder approach towards understanding how we can learn to work with our thoughts and inner chatter.

Enjoy! The aim of the five weeks!  Learning  to have a space to explore how it feels  to stretch and  unwind both  physical and mental tensions that may be rebalanced with care, kindness and mindful attention.

The What If Scenario?

Decision time! I looked out the window, it was grey, raining and not the most pleasant day to go for a walk in the woods nearby. I became intrigued by the ‘decision department’ in my brain as to what to do.  Hesitating on the what if scenario.. ?  what if the skies opened and I would be drenched? what if the pathway in the woodlands were too wet and muddy to walk on? what if I walked another route? pondering humming and hawing then after a while deciding there would be too much passing traffic and noise….. anyway I concluded to myself it looks very cold outside.  All of this internal conversation going on in my head without my actually putting a toe outside to check if any part of it might even be true!

This is where being mindful of how our mind works is really interesting and delightfully funny on occasions.  To actually notice how we ‘perceive’ situations or events to be  true…. without our actual personal experience or developing an understanding towards how we arrive at our conclusions. Being in the present moment is relating to the actual experience of whats happening as it happens. Yes, I did find it blustery, wet underfoot and so on that was my actual experience I thoroughly enjoyed the freshness I felt as other senses such as tactile, visual and auditory  came alive.  It wasn’t the customary going for a walk just thinking about things.  I felt alive and energetic a bit like a kid exploring a forest for the first time.   The autumn leaves welshed underfoot their vibrant colors not as evident as before. Looking closer I marveled at the young shoots of wild green leaves making their way up and into the world. The beautiful sway of the tall trees dancing and accompanied by the restful sounds of the wind swirling the last of the leaves here and there.  Isn’t this life a miracle though?
